Many people know or have heard of hunting season. Fewer people know that it is done for a good reason, thinning the deer population, and is a very controlled operation with tags and licenses. Every state has their own ways of dealing with wildlife and managing the populations, Missouri is no different. Like I said before only the die hard hunters know the seasons and the limitations, so thats why I am blogging details on hunting season.
Even though there are many different animals to hunt in Missouri in this post I am going to focus on Bambie’s family. Overall, there is about six main sections to the deer hunting season. The first section is archery, meaning the deer can only be killed with an arrow from a bow. This section occurs at two different dates, the first is from August 15th to September 14th and the second is from September 26 to the 15th of January. The next section and the main portion that most hunters participate in is firearms. This section allows all hunters to use their guns to get that mount on the wall and the freezer full of meat. Firearms starts September 15th to September 25th. The next to come is the combination of firearms and alternative methods, which starts the 20th of December and ends ten days later on the 30th. The fourth section is firearms again, but this time you can only shoot deer without antlers and only in open areas. It starts on September 26th and ends on December 7th. The fifth section is firearms again, however, it was urban hunting and in open areas only. It starts the 10th of October and ends on October 13th. Last and defiantly the most important is youth hunting, teaching the youth to properly participate in a common ritual of hunting to sustain the nature around us and show them the beauty of nature. Youth section involves firearms and has two different times, September 1st and 2nd, and again on January 3rd and 4th. Keep in mind that permits and regulations are required and made to be followed.
